ANCHOR LEAD: There's a new compact car rolling into dealer showrooms, but when you step inside this particular vehicle, you might have to leave your concept of compacts behind in the rearview mirror. T. K. Anderson has more. (:60)
SCRIPT: Zero to Sixty, I'm T. K. Anderson. You've heard the phrase, "less is more," but one new car in the Chevrolet lineup is literally proving it. Chevrolet Marketing Manager Mike Weidman says the Chevrolet Cruze combines the spaciousness and amenities of a midsize car with the fuel economy and price of a compact.
CUT: (Weidman) The Cruze is packed with features we're used to seeing on upscale vehicles, like Bluetooth, Navigation, 18 inch aluminum wheels and a Pioneer nine speaker audio system. But then with its 1.4 liter Equitech turbo engine, it can also turn out 40 miles per gallon on the highway. So it's hybrid like economy, without the price tag.
SCRIPT: With more interior room and cargo space than the Civic and Corolla, Weidman says the Cruze doesn't take a compact approach to quality or safety.
CUT: (Weidman) Our engineers have logged over four million miles of durability testing across all the major continents, in the harshest geographical and climate conditions, and Cruze has also achieved five star safety ratings in every market where it's sold.
